A new blog link to the Hessle Ceilidh band

There are strong links between The Raving Maenads and the Hessle Ceilidh Band.

A seven piece band complete with dance caller based in the East Riding of Yorkshire near Hull. With fiddles, accordian, concertina, whistles and piano, with pipes, recorders, oboe and euphonium thrown in for good meausure (combined with a great caller), a good nights music and dancing is to be had. Not for the faint hearted!

It can be something picked up in the woods as long as it is fairly straight. If you have any old bits of leather or upholstery type fabric bring that as well. Kirsty is going to do a scrapstore raid so don't worry if you don't have anything Tel Kirsty on 629017 if you want to know more about what we are making or if you can't attend and want us to do your broom for you. Nibbles or drinks if you want as well. It's the ideal time to discuss costumes so bring anything you want to show and ideas, patterns ect.

SATURDAY 5th MAY Hessle Town Hall I can't make this practice but Kirsty ,Rayne ,Edwina will be able to take you through the dances - If its not feasable to have that practice as it is the Bank holiday discuss on 2nd May.

SATURDAY 12th MAY - We have been invited to dance to open the pagan federation conference at about 10.30 We could have a last minute practice at 9.30 .The venue is Hessle Town Hall. If at least 6 women are interested then we can do it.If more can commit to this event then we could do the Broom dance.

SATURDAY 16th JUNE BEVERLEY FESTIVAL We can dance at the Saturday parade or at some of the other venues. I need to contact the dance organiser for the festival fairly soon so have a think what as a group we can do. Suggestions that we move to an evening session during the summer.Chat about this on the Wed 2nd.

Does anyone fancy organising a" dance out" - Its traditional for ritual dance sides to dance outside country pubs during the summer if you are feeling brave and have a local pub where we would be welcome then it would be a good night out.

See you all WED MAY 2nd Janet
